Meet our 1st Line Support Engineers, James Taylor

One of the newest members of the team is 1st line Support Engineer, James Taylor, who is already considered as a valued and respected member of our Technical Team here at Agile.

To get to know James a little better, we thought we’d ask him a few questions and introduce him to our wider community.

Say Hello to our IT Support Engineer, James

After just a few months of being in post as a First Line IT Support Engineer, James Taylor, is already making a fantastic impression with clients.

We thought we’d ask him a few questions to learn more about his experience and what brought him to Agile Technical Solutions, as we do with all our new starters.

James, could you tell us about your career to date?

No problem. I’ve been working in IT support services for a few years now. Locally, I’ve held two inhouse IT technician positions, one at a large estate agency and another at a builder’s merchant. I worked my way up to be in quite a position of technical authority at the estate agency. It was a role I enjoyed and gave me a solid foundation for resolving technical IT problems.

Before that, I held several different customer-facing roles. I’ve worked at Barclays Bank, Sainsburys, camping retailers and even delivering for Domino’s (during my student days).

Every role that I’ve had has been customer-facing.

Have you always been interested in IT?

Yes, since quite a young age. I properly started getting into IT at college, where I studied Computing at A Level before moving to Portsmouth University to study Web Technologies.

Initially, I wanted to be a web developer but it was an incredibly competitive industry to enter. That was before I started my IT support role at the estate agency, where everything just seemed to fall into place. I enjoyed the challenge of resolving technical problems, which is what I now do as a First Line IT Support Engineer here at Agile.

What do you like most about working in IT Support?

I guess the thing I like most is the variety of issues and challenges that I come across. No two days are the same. Also, technology is constantly evolving and so I am always learning something new, which is not the same in every job.

Other, more experienced members of the team are great at sharing their knowledge with me, too. It’s a very collaborative environment where we support one another.

What are you most proud of in your career?

That’s a difficult one to answer as there are lots of little things but if I was to choose an achievement, it would be how quickly I previously moved into a more senior technical IT role. I was a go-to person to resolve technical issues.

What do you bring to the role at Agile?

I’d say that I bring good client service experience from my customer-facing roles. From a technical point of view, I am also very competent. I have the knowledge to fix anything IT-related that comes my way, and if there’s something I have not encountered before, I will always ask another team member.

What do you enjoy most about your role at Agile?

I think it must be the environment. It is relaxed, but everyone takes their work very seriously to create the best experience for the client.

Outside of work, what do you like to do?

Since March 2023, I’ve been focusing heavily on my fitness and I go to the gym six days a week.

I like spending time with other likeminded technical people, I also enjoy a spot of on-line gaming.
